Buffs, Lady Buffs pick up wins over SVU MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 24, 2007) --- The Milligan College men’s and women’s tennis teams went undefeated on Saturday afternoon against opponents from Southern Virginia University by scores of 9-0. The Buffs now hold a record of 2-5 overall with 0-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play. The Lady Buffs move to 2-4 overall, 0-1 AAC. Seniors Ryan Reynolds (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Tom Jones (Johnson City, Tenn.), as well as the team of Bryan Upshaw (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Travis Fields (Maryville, Tenn.), took the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches 8-0, respectively. The pairing of Jonathon Ryan (Wangaratta, Australia) and Charles Williams (Perth, Australia) would also win for the Buffs, taking the No. 2 doubles match 8-1. In men’s singles, Ryan defeated Kody Chacon for the first of Milligan’s many wins by a score of 6-1, 6-0. The Buffs would continue to dominate in singles play en route to their 9-0 victory. For the Lady Buffs, Sara Hopson (Greeneville, Tenn.) and Janie Mullins (Greenville, Ala.) won the No. 1 doubles match 8-1, and fellow teammates Myra O’Dell (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Mandy Caston (Moncks Corner, S.C.) in the No. 2 match with a similar 8-1 score. Taking the No. 3 doubles match for Milligan were freshmen Laura Bowman (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Mackenzie Pfiefer (Washington Court House, Ohio) with a score of 8-2. Hopson would again win for Milligan in the No. 1 singles match, as the remainder of Lady Buffs followed suit with victories throughout the afternoon for the 9-0 sweep. Milligan will travel to UVA-Wise on Mar. 28 for an AAC match that is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
