ERWIN,
TN (April 27, 2007) ---
Ike Weaver, a 6-foot-8 basketball standout at
Unicoi County High School has signed a letter of intent to
attend Milligan College and play basketball for the Buffs.
Milligan head coach Tony
Wallingford made the announcement Friday.
Weaver,
the Watauga Conference player of the year this season,
averaged 17 points and 8 rebounds per game for Unicoi County
head coach John English
and the Blue Devils. Weaver has accumulated multiple post
season awards during his career including All-Northeast
Tennessee, All-Region 1-AA tournament, All-District 1-AA,
District 1-AA tournament MVP, and All-Watauga Conference.
Weaver helped lead the Blue Devils to two sub-state
appearances, two District 1-AA titles, and two Watauga
Conference championships. During his varsity career, Unicoi
County won 102 games.
Wallingford
is excited to have Weaver join the Buffs. “We really liked
Ike’s upside. Ike is a big kid with solid basketball skills.
He is strong around the basket yet possesses a nice shooting
touch from the perimeter. With weight training and physical
maturity Ike can be a monster.”
Weaver
will join fellow Unicoi County High School basketball great
Dustin Edwards
at Milligan. Edwards is completing his first season as an
assistant coach for the Buffs.
“With our
post position hit hard with graduation, Ike will be counted
on to contribute early in his career. We are confident he
can do it,” Wallingford concluded.
Weaver,
an honor student, has been recognized as an Embark Scholar
during his senior year. He is considering pre-physical
therapy or a pre-engineering track at Milligan. Weaver is
the son of Sam
and Bubbles Weaver
of Erwin.
