MILLIGAN
COLLEGE, TN (February 10, 2007) --- Milligan College sophomore
Jeff Barnes
(Franklin, Tenn.) scored 24 points and grabbed a career high 25
rebounds to help lead the Buffs to a 92-59 Appalachian Athletic
Conference (AAC) win over Union (Ky.) College Saturday night.
The win
improves Milligan’s record to 20-8 and 11-5 in the AAC. Head
coach Tony Wallingford
has reached the 20-win mark for the 11th time while
at Milligan, and this marks the first time the Buffs won 20
games for the first time since the 2000-2001 season. Union falls
to 10-18 overall and 4-12 in the conference.
Despite
falling behind 14-4 over the first five minutes, Milligan fought
back to tie the contest 16-16 after Adrian Harrison (Greensboro,
N.C.) drained both of his free throws with 9:00 minutes
remaining in the half. The Buffs went on a 25-10 run to end the
opening half to take a 41-26 lead into the halftime break.
To start the
second half, Milligan would not relinquish control and went on
to the 92-59 victory. The Buffs shot an amazing 61.3 percent
(19-of-31) in the final half.
To go along
with Barnes’ 24 points Tyler
Estepp (Limestone, Tenn.) and
Zach Dezarn
(Franklin, Ohio) scored 12 and 11 points respectively. Freshman
Andrew Norman
(Elizabethton, Tenn.) scored a career-high ten points and he
scored all of his points in the final three minutes of the
contest. Harrison also tallied ten points in the win.
Union was led
by Chris Stunson with 13 points while Anthony Coote added 11
points off the bench.
Milligan
finished the game by shooting 55 percent (33-of-60) for the game
while Union shot 31.1 percent (19-61). The Buffs also
out-rebounded the Bulldogs 45-32.
Next on the
schedule for Milligan is a trip to play at UVA-Wise (7-21, 4-12
AAC) Tuesday evening. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The
Buffs won their earlier match up 57-45 on January 13.
