Barnes scores 24 in Milligan's 20th win of the year

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February 10, 2007) --- Milligan College sophomore Jeff Barnes (Franklin, Tenn.) scored 24 points and grabbed a career high 25 rebounds to help lead the Buffs to a 92-59 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) win over Union (Ky.) College Saturday night.

The win improves Milligan’s record to 20-8 and 11-5 in the AAC. Head coach Tony Wallingford has reached the 20-win mark for the 11th time while at Milligan, and this marks the first time the Buffs won 20 games for the first time since the 2000-2001 season. Union falls to 10-18 overall and 4-12 in the conference.

Despite falling behind 14-4 over the first five minutes, Milligan fought back to tie the contest 16-16 after Adrian Harrison (Greensboro, N.C.) drained both of his free throws with 9:00 minutes remaining in the half. The Buffs went on a 25-10 run to end the opening half to take a 41-26 lead into the halftime break.

To start the second half, Milligan would not relinquish control and went on to the 92-59 victory. The Buffs shot an amazing 61.3 percent (19-of-31) in the final half.

To go along with Barnes’ 24 points Tyler Estepp (Limestone, Tenn.) and Zach Dezarn (Franklin, Ohio) scored 12 and 11 points respectively. Freshman Andrew Norman (Elizabethton, Tenn.) scored a career-high ten points and he scored all of his points in the final three minutes of the contest. Harrison also tallied ten points in the win.

Union was led by Chris Stunson with 13 points while Anthony Coote added 11 points off the bench.

Milligan finished the game by shooting 55 percent (33-of-60) for the game while Union shot 31.1 percent (19-61). The Buffs also out-rebounded the Bulldogs 45-32.

Next on the schedule for Milligan is a trip to play at UVA-Wise (7-21, 4-12 AAC) Tuesday evening. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Buffs won their earlier match up 57-45 on January 13.
