Milligan misses cut at NAIA
MILLIGAN
COLLEGE, TN (May 24, 2007) --- The Milligan
College golf team improved on their second round
score of 338 and posted a third round 335 on
Thursday at the NAIA Men’s Golf National
Championship. However, Milligan and their
three-round total of 1004 missed the cut in the
program’s first-ever trip to the NAIA National
Championship at the Indiana National Golf Club,
a par-72, 6,950 yard layout in Plymouth. The
28-team field was trimmed down to the top 17
teams and 40 individuals after the third round
and the players will move on to Friday’s final
round.
Senior
Matt Barefoot (Kingsport, Tenn.) fired an 80
while freshman Terrance Evans (Galax,
Va.) played the final nine holes three-over-par
for a 39 to go with his 42 on the first nine for
an 81 on Thursday. The senior duo of Matt
Ongie (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Ryan
Morris (Frankfort, Ind.) each fired similar
rounds of 87 to round out the Milligan team
score.
Wayland
Baptist (Texas) cut into Oklahoma City’s team
lead with their 298 in the third round while
Oklahoma City posted a team score of 304. After
three rounds, Oklahoma City still holds onto the
team lead with a three-day total of 875,
11-over-par, and eight shots in front of Wayland
Baptist. Oklahoma Christian is third at
27-over-par, two shots better than Berry (Ga.)
and Johnson & Wales (Fla.) rounds out the top
five with a 30-over-par total.
Sam Cyr, from
Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) used a 67 in the
third round to take the individual lead with a
three-round total of 211, five-under-par. He
holds a two shot advantage over Johnson & Wales’
David Tobon, the 36-hole-leader, finished with a
74 in the third round. Oklahoma City’s Daniel
Mitchell is at one-under-par after three rounds
in third place while a group of four golfers are
tied at one-over-par, 217 going into the final
18 holes.
