KINGSPORT, TN (April 3, 2007) ---
The Milligan College golf team finished fourth
after the final round of the Cavalier
Invitational held Tuesday afternoon. The two-day
event was held at the par-72, 6,852 yard
Ridgefields Country Club in Kingsport, Tenn.
The Buffs started the second round tied for
third with tournament-host UVA-Wise after each
posted a 317 on Monday. Milligan shot a 315 on
Tuesday while UVA-Wise finished one shot better
with their 314.
Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist College won the
event with rounds of 300 and 295 for a total of
595, 33 shots better then second place Bluefield
(Va.) College with two round total of 628. UVA-Wise
was third with a 631, followed by Milligan with
their 632 in fourth. Union (Ky.) College rounded
out the top five, four shots behind the Buffs.
Grayson Patton
(Fries, Va.) and
Ryan Morris
(Frankfort, Ind.) each finished with two-day
totals of 154 to lead the Buffs’ charge.
Matt Ongie
(Johnson City, Tenn.) and
Michael Woods
(Knoxville, Tenn.) rounded out the Milligan team
score with identical two-round totals of 162.
Southern Methodist's Matt Jackson finished as
the top individual with a 146.
The Buffs will travel to the BMW Collegiate
Invitational at the Verdae Greens Golf Club in
Greenville, S.C. for a 36-hole event. The first
round will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, April 9.
