MARIETTA, GA (February 28, 2007) --- The
Milligan College Buffs’ baseball team
finished their Georgia road trip with two
loses at Southern Polytechnic State
University (SPSU) Wednesday afternoon in
Marietta. Despite a late run from the Buffs,
Milligan lost the opening game of the
doubleheader 2-1. In the final game SPSU
jumped in front early and held on for a 3-0
victory. After the results of the
doubleheader Milligan stands at 4-10 while
SPSU moves to 12-4.
In the opening game Milligan fell behind 2-0
after the first inning. The Buffs cut the
lead in half in the top half of the sixth
inning when
Garrett Reed
(Gray, Tenn.) drove in
Danny Bacon
(St. Petersburg, Fla.) with a fielder’s
choice.
Toby Hoyle
(Johnson City, Tenn.) pitched six innings
against SPSU. He gave up two runs, one
earned run, on four hits with three
strikeouts for Milligan.
Clint Dorman
(Savannah, Ga.) and
Baker DeCamp
(Miami, Fla.) each provided a hit for
Milligan in the first contest.
The second game saw SPSU put two runs on the
scoreboard in the second inning and they
added another run in the sixth inning.
Jeremy Dulgar
(St. Cloud, Fla.) went 1-for-2 and gave
Milligan their only hit in the game.
Freshman
Derek Koone (Winston-Salem, N.C.)
also pitched six strong innings against SPSU.
Koone allowed three earned runs while he
scattered four hits with three strikeouts.
The Buffs will open the 2007 Appalachian
Athletic Conference season Saturday
afternoon at Montreat (N.C.) College (9-4).
The first game of their doubleheader is set
to begin at 1 p.m.
