ASHEVILLE, NC (March
3, 2007) --- The
Milligan College
baseball team
started the 2007
Appalachian Athletic
Conference (AAC)
season with a split
at Montreat (N.C.)
College Saturday
afternoon. Montreat
took the first game
with an 18-5 win,
but the Buffaloes
bounced back in the
second game with a
4-3 victory.
With the results,
both teams share a
1-1 AAC record while
Milligan moves to
5-11 overall and
Montreat is now
10-5.
Freshman
right-handed pitcher
Frank Newcomb
(Knoxville, Tenn.)
pitched his second
complete game of the
season in the
nightcap. Newcomb
allowed three runs,
one earned, on six
hits with four
strikeouts on the
mound.
Milligan came up
with all four of
their runs in the
final two innings
with a pair of
two-run home runs.
The first came from
Clint Dorman
(Savannah, Ga.) in
the sixth followed
by the game-winning
shot from
Baker DeCamp
(Miami, Fla.) in the
seventh inning.
DeCamp also added
another hit in the
contest.
The first game saw
the Buffs jump in
front early on
Montreat.
Justin Sauceman
(Alcoa, Tenn.)
provided a two-run
home run to give
Milligan a 2-0 lead
in the first inning.
The Buffs would
eventually lead 5-1
half way through the
third inning.
Montreat capitalized
on Milligan mistakes
in the home half of
the third inning. An
8-run inning gave
the Cavs the lead.
Sauceman finished
the game 3-for-4
with two more RBIs.
Dorman and
Garrett Reed
(Gray, Tenn.) each
added two hits and a
run. Dorman also
accounted for one
RBI. Senior Ben Huff
(Bristol, Tenn.) was
1-for-3, but his hit
was a double.
Brett Seybert
(Columbiana, Ohio)
pitched two plus
innings for the
Buffs and gave up
eight runs, but only
two were earned. He
gave up four hits
and walked four with
one strikeout.
Of Montreat’s 15
runs scored, only
four were earned
runs.
Milligan will travel
to Brewton-Parker
College for a
four-game series.
The Buffs and Barons
will play a
doubleheader on
Tuesday and
Wednesday in Mount
Vernon, Ga. Both of
the doubleheaders
are scheduled to
begin at 1 p.m.
