MILLIGAN
COLLEGE,
TN (April 24, 2007) ---
On Tuesday evening, the Milligan
College Buffaloes’ baseball team suffered an 8-6 loss at the
hands of the King (Tenn.) College Tornado at Anglin Field.
Despite scoring six runs over the first three innings, King
battled back for the non-conference victory. After the results,
Milligan moves to 23-22 while King is now 28-24.
A four-run first inning, all scored with two outs, gave Milligan
the early advantage. A RBI single from
Brandon Murphy
(Johnson City, Tenn.) allowed the Appalachian Athletic
Conference (AAC) Player of the Week
Baker DeCamp (Miami,
Fla.) to score the first run of the game. Senior
Ben Huff (Bristol,
Tenn.) followed with a walk and
Jonathan Ridenour
(Alcoa, Tenn.) singled. Murphy’s courtesy runner Drew Anders
(Johnson City, Tenn.) came around for the second run on
Ridenour’s single. Ricky
Morgan (Johnson City, Tenn.) then singled which
allowed Huff and Ridenour to come home to make the score 4-0
after one inning.
Garrett Reed
(Gray, Tenn.) then scored in the second inning when he tripled
to right field and an error in the King outfield allowed him to
come all the way home. The last run for the Buffs scored in the
third inning when Huff crossed home to give Milligan a 6-0 lead
after three innings.
King
cut the deficit in half with three runs in the fifth inning;
however the Tornado used a five run outburst to take the lead in
the top half of the eighth inning.
Nathan Fritz
(Kingsport, Tenn.) suffered the loss in a relief appearance out
of the Buffs’ bullpen. Fritz (7-4) threw 1 2/3 innings and
allowed two runs, one earned run, on three hits. He also added a
strikeout.
Danny Bacon
(St. Petersburg, Fla.), Morgan and Reed each finished the game
2-for-4 while Justin Sauceman
(Alcoa, Tenn.) and Ridenour both added 2-for-5 performances from
the plate for the Buffs.
Milligan will travel to face AAC foe Union (Ky.) College on
Saturday afternoon. The Buffs are currently in second place in
the conference standings, one game ahead of Union, UVA-Wise,
King and Montreat (N.C.) College going into the final conference
weekend. The doubleheader between Milligan and Union is
scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
