MILLIGAN COLLEGE,
TN (March 24, 2007) --- The Milligan College Buffs’ baseball team
extended their winning streak to five games after two wins versus
Covenant (Ga.) College in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC)
action Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffs won the first
game 13-3 and then Nathan Fritz
(Kingsport, Tenn.) threw a one hitter in Milligan’s 5-0 win to
complete the sweep. With the wins, Milligan improves to 6-2 in the
AAC and 13-15 overall while Covenant falls to 0-8 within the
conference and 4-21 overall.

After Covenant
scored two runs in the top half of the second inning, Milligan
answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the
second. A two-out single from
Garrett Reed (Gray, Tenn.) drove in
Ricky Morgan (Johnson
City, Tenn.) and Spencer Street
(Jonesborough, Tenn.) to tie the game.
Covenant regained
the lead in the fourth inning when Brad Nichols scored on a double
from Ryan Moot.
The Buffs posted
four runs on the scoreboard in the fifth inning and six more in the
sixth inning to make the score 12-3, in favor of Milligan.
Justin Sauceman (Alcoa,
Tenn.) scored the final run of the game and seal the 13-3 win for
Milligan.
Senior
Brett Seybert
(Columbiana, Ohio) improved his record to 4-2 with his fifth
complete game of the season. Seybert gave up three runs, one earned
run, on six hits and he struck out four.
Clint Dorman
(Savannah, Ga.) went 3-for-5, scored two runs and hit a double for
the Buffs. Sauceman was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a walk and
was hit by pitch while Street and Reed each finished 2-for-4.
Brett Neas
suffered the loss for Covenant. He allowed ten runs over his five
innings of work. Sam Hogan went 3-for-4 a the plate.

Fritz kept the
Covenant bats quiet over the first six innings. The first Covenant
hit came in the seventh inning. Fritz hit a batter in the sixth
inning to break up the potential perfect game. For the game, Fritz
threw 52 pitches over the seven inning contest for his fourth
complete game and to improve his record to 3-2. To go along with the
one hit, he struck out four in the shut out.
The Buffs used a
four-run third inning to gain the lead and then Milligan added an
insurance run in the fifth inning for the win.
Reed went 1-for-1
at the plate, to go along with a pair of walks and two runs scored
in the game while Sauceman only collected one hit in the game, but
it was a two-run double in the third inning.
The Buffs will
travel to King College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday
afternoon. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Bristol, Tenn.
