Milligan
College
baseball
team was
handed a
17-9
loss
against
NCAA
Division
II foe
Carson-Newman
(Tenn.)
College
Tuesday
evening
at
Anglin
Field.
Milligan
moves to
21-20
overall
while
Carson-Newman
improves
to
30-17.
After
the
Eagles
of
Carson-Newman
scored
three
runs in
top-half
of the
second
inning,
the
Buffs
answered
with
four
runs of
their
own to
take the
lead.
Carson-Newman
eventually
tied the
contest
with a
run in
the
fourth
inning
and
later
took the
lead
with
another
run in
the
fifth
inning.
The
Eagles
added
two
insurance
runs in
the
sixth to
make the
score
7-4 in
their
favor.
Milligan
regained
control
in the
home-half
of the
sixth
inning.
Four
straight
singles
pushed
home
four
runs to
give the
Buffs an
8-7
lead.
Just as
quickly
as
Milligan
took the
lead,
Carson-Newman
put ten
runs on
the
scoreboard
in the
top of
the
seventh
inning
to take
the lead
for good
in the
see-saw
battle.
The
Buffs
scored
again in
the
bottom
of the
eighth
inning,
but
could
not
overcome
the
deficit.
Toby
Hoyle
(Johnson
City,
Tenn.)
suffered
the loss
for the
Buffs.
He
pitched
two full
innings
and
allowed
six
runs,
four
earned
runs, on
five
hits.
At the
plate,
Milligan
was led
by
Danny
Bacon
(St.
Petersburg,
Fla.)
with his
4-for-5
performance
with a
run
scored.
Ben Huff
(Bristol,
Tenn.)
and
Brandon
Murphy
(Johnson
City,
Tenn.)
went
3-for-4
and
3-for-5
respectively
for the
Buffs
Carson-Newman’s
Adam
Kefauver
was
4-for-6
while
Mills
Rogers
went
3-for-6.
Tyler
Wynn
scored
four
runs for
the
Eagles
to go
with a
2-for-5
game at
the
plate.
Milligan
will
travel
to play
NCAA
Division
III
member
Maryville
(Tenn.)
College
Wednesday
for a 6
p.m.
contest.
The
Buffs
won both
games of
their
earlier
doubleheader
on March
28 at
Anglin
Field by
the
scores
of 9-5
and 3-2.
