Eagles rout Milligan, 13-1

Michael Brown went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI to lead the Eagles' 12-hit
attack and give Carson-Newman a 13-1 victory over Milligan in the
Eagles' 2007 home opener at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
C-N (5-4) broke the game wide open in the second inning with five
runs. Catcher Jim Doran led off the inning with a walk and advanced
to second on Mills Rogers' sacrifice bunt. Second baseman Joe Kugler
singled and stole second while Doran advanced to third. After
Brandon Burchfield walked, Langdon Potts laced a single up the
middle to score Doran and Kugler for a 3-0 C-N advantage. Burchfield
scored on an error by Milligan catcher Brandon Murphy and Michael
Brown added to the Buffaloes' woes with a 2-RBI single for a 6-0 C-N
lead.
Brett Hontz (1-0) proved masterful on the mound, giving up just one
hit while striking out four and walking none to earn his first win
of the season. Potts was one-for-three at the plate with two RBI
while Mills Rogers went two-for-three with one RBI and one run
scored.
Milligan’s next challenge will come on Friday,
Feb.
15, as they will
travel to Southern Wesleyan University. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
