JEFFERSON CITY, TN (February 10, 2007)-- Michael Brown went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI to lead the Eagles' 12-hit attack and give Carson-Newman a 13-1 victory over Milligan in the Eagles' 2007 home opener at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.

C-N (5-4) broke the game wide open in the second inning with five runs. Catcher Jim Doran led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on Mills Rogers' sacrifice bunt. Second baseman Joe Kugler singled and stole second while Doran advanced to third. After Brandon Burchfield walked, Langdon Potts laced a single up the middle to score Doran and Kugler for a 3-0 C-N advantage. Burchfield scored on an error by Milligan catcher Brandon Murphy and Michael Brown added to the Buffaloes' woes with a 2-RBI single for a 6-0 C-N lead.

Brett Hontz (1-0) proved masterful on the mound, giving up just one hit while striking out four and walking none to earn his first win of the season.  Potts was one-for-three at the plate with two RBI while Mills Rogers went two-for-three with one RBI and one run scored.

Milligan’s next challenge will come on Friday, Feb. 15, as they will travel to Southern Wesleyan University. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
