MILLIGAN
COLLEGE, TN (March 10, 2007) --- The Milligan College Buffs’
baseball team started Saturday afternoon’s Appalachian
Athletic Conference (AAC) doubleheader with a 6-2 win over
Bryan (Tenn.) College at Anglin Field, but the Buffs lost
the second game 7-5. After the split, Milligan holds a 2-2
conference record and an overall record of 8-13 while Bryan
is 1-3 within the AAC and 11-8 overall.

The
opening game was scoreless until
Clint Dorman
(Savannah, Ga.) came around to score in the fourth inning to
give Milligan a 1-0 lead. The Buffs added two more runs in
the fifth only to see Bryan answer with a run in the top of
the sixth to make the score 3-1. Another pair of runs in the
seventh inning extended the Buffs’ lead to 5-1. Each team
scored a run in the eighth inning to make the final score
6-2.

Brett Seybert
(Columbiana, Ohio) went seven strong innings to even his
record to 2-2 this season. He only allowed one earned run on
five hits with four strikeouts.
Baker DeCamp
(Miami, Fla.) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two doubles
and two RBIs from his lead-off position in the Buffs’ line
up. Spencer Street
(Jonesborough, Tenn.) contributed with a 2-for-4 performance
at the plate and added two runs of his own in the win.
Bryan’s
Ben Watson scored both of their runs and Drew Friedrich
accounted for both RBIs. Michael Kent and Brad Starnes also
went 2-for-4. Will Stokes was the losing pitcher after he
threw seven complete innings and gave up five runs on seven
hits.

Bryan
jumped in front early and put a run on the scoreboard in the
first inning followed by two more in the second inning.
The Buffs
answered when Ben Huff
(Bristol, Tenn.) scored in the second inning to make the
score 3-1.
The top
of the third saw Bryan add four more runs to extend their
lead.
Milligan
chipped away with a run in the third and fifth innings.
Another two runs in the sixth brought the Buffs closer to
the Lions. In the bottom of the seventh, Milligan put
runners on the corners with one out, but Bryan was able to
turn a game-ending 4-to-3 double play to end the game.
On the
mound, Knoxville native
Frank Newcomb (2-2) only went 2 2/3 innings in
his start and gave up seven runs on seven hits against
Bryan.
Garrett Reed
(Gray, Tenn.) and Street each went 2-for-3 and both scored a
run and drew a walk. Huff finished the game 2-for-4 with a
run scored of his own.
For
Bryan, Daniel Bosarge picked up the win on the mound and Ben
Young earned a save. Kent went 2-for-4 in the nightcap while
Jeremy Deal belted a home run and Jeremy Potts scored two
runs in the Lions’ win.
Milligan
will return to action Wednesday afternoon at NCAA Division
II foe Brevard (N.C.) College. The Buffs and Tornados will
play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
