MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April
4, 2006)---The Milligan College baseball team split an out
of conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon 0-1 and 4-3
against the North Greenville (S.C.) University Crusaders at
Anglin Field. With the split the Buffaloes move to 13-21
overall this season.
Game 1
NGU 1, Milligan 0 F/10 inn.
Milligan’s offense was unable to get anything going in the
first game managing only six hits in ten innings of play.
The Buffaloes stranded an outstanding start from freshman
pitcher Adam Chapman (Jefferson City, Tenn.) who
threw seven innings of shutout baseball. Chapman allowed
only two hits while striking out five (including the side in
the first inning) and walking four batters.
The
Crusaders put the only run of the game on the board in the
top of the tenth when Eric Loy scored on wild pitch from
Milligan reliever Andrew Klahn (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.)
who was trying to intentionally walk Carlos Cardenas.
Milligan
was led offensively by junior Kory Kinnear
(Greensboro, N.C.) and senior David Rusaw (Longmount,
Col.) who both went 2-for-3 on the day. Garrett Reed
(Gray, Tenn.) and Tyler Turner (Cookeville, Tenn.)
both added singles.
Game 2
Milligan 4, NGU 3
Milligan’s offense finally showed signs of life in game two
and junior pitcher Stephen Jarrett (Gray, Tenn.) kept
the Crusaders offense off balance all day to earn the 4-3
victory.
Jarrett
threw a complete game while allowing only three runs, only
two earned, on seven hits while striking out one and walking
none.
The
Buffaloes offense was led by Rusaw who was 3-for-4 with two
doubles and an RBI. Reed went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Cody
Whitlock (Elizabethton, Tenn.) added a single and an RBI
and Will Little (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Cody
Cannon (Elizabethton, Tenn.) both added singles.
Milligan
has added another game to their schedule with Berea (Ky.)
College tomorrow afternoon at Anglin Field. First pitch for
the doubleheader is set for 5 p.m.
