Milligan Men's Tennis wins season opener

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February 27, 2006)---The Milligan College men’s tennis team defeated Maryville College by a final score of 8-1 on Monday evening at the Mathes Tennis Center.

Milligan took all five singles match ups as Tom Jones (Johnson City, Tenn.), Ryan Reynolds (Johnson City, Tenn.), Joe Dyer (Monroe, Ga.), Travis Fields (Maryville, Tenn.), Stuart Makinson (Franklin, N.C.), and Isaac Schade (Stockbridge, Ga.) all came away with points.

Maryville’s only point of the match came in doubles action, as the pair of Yumihito Takebuchi and Matthew Berra defeated Milligan’s Dyer and Makinson by a count of 8-6.

In other doubles play, Milligan’s pairs of Jones and Reynolds, and Fields and Schade, came away with 8-0 victories.

The win moves Milligan’s record to 1-0 to begin the season. Maryville, also beginning their season, falls to 0-1.

The Buffs will be back in action on Wednesday, March 1, at 3 p.m. for a men’s and women’s double header against conference opponent Virginia Intermont College, at the Mathes Tennis Center.
