No. 24 Montreat beats Buffs at home

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February 11, 2006)---The Milligan College men’s basketball team lost to the No. 24 Cavaliers of Montreat College in an Appalachian Athletic Conference game by a score of 92-69 on Saturday evening at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

Montreat established their prowess early, coming out on fire shooting nearly 66 percent from the field in the first half.

After trailing by as many as 26 in the first period, Milligan was able to close the gap down to 16, heading into halftime with the score 55-39.

Unfortunately for the Buffs, the second half held more of the same. Montreat’s Noble Anthony scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds in the game, and fellow post player Jazz Cathcart added 18 points of his own.

Milligan was led by freshmen Tyler Estepp (Limestone, Tenn.) with 11 points, and Cody May (Knoxville, Tenn.) who added 11 rebounds.

Zach Dezarn (Franklin, Ohio), Tino Washington (Lexington, Ky.) and Joe Brown (Blountville, Tenn.) all chipped in with 10 points apiece.

The loss moves Milligan’s record to 10-17 and their conference mark to 4-14. Montreat clinches at least a share of the AAC title with the win, and moves to 18-9 overall and 16-3 in the conference.

Milligan will travel to Dayton, Tenn., this Tuesday, Feb. 14, to challenge the Lions of Bryan College. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
