MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February
11, 2006)---The Milligan College men’s basketball team lost
to the No. 24 Cavaliers of Montreat College in an
Appalachian Athletic Conference game by a score of 92-69 on
Saturday evening at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Montreat established their
prowess early, coming out on fire shooting nearly 66 percent
from the field in the first half.
After
trailing by as many as 26 in the first period, Milligan was
able to close the gap down to 16, heading into halftime with
the score 55-39.
Unfortunately for the Buffs, the second half held more of
the same. Montreat’s Noble Anthony scored 20 points and had
11 rebounds in the game, and fellow post player Jazz
Cathcart added 18 points of his own.
Milligan
was led by freshmen Tyler Estepp (Limestone, Tenn.)
with 11 points, and Cody May (Knoxville, Tenn.) who
added 11 rebounds.
Zach
Dezarn
(Franklin, Ohio), Tino Washington (Lexington, Ky.)
and Joe Brown (Blountville, Tenn.) all chipped in
with 10 points apiece.
The loss
moves Milligan’s record to 10-17 and their conference mark
to 4-14. Montreat clinches at least a share of the AAC title
with the win, and moves to 18-9 overall and 16-3 in the
conference.
Milligan
will travel to Dayton, Tenn., this Tuesday, Feb. 14, to
challenge the Lions of Bryan College. That game will begin
at 7:30 p.m.
