Milligan men lose to
Covenant at home
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN
(January 14, 2006)---The Milligan College men’s basketball team was
defeated by a score of 82-60 on Saturday night by conference opponent
Covenant College at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse in a game in which the
Buffs never held the lead.
In the first half,
Milligan could not find an answer for Covenant’s Jonathan McClellan, who
went 5-for-5 from the field, including 3-of-3 from beyond the three
point arc, for a total of 13 points.
McClellan was not the
only hot shooter of the opening period for the Scots, as they shot an
impressive 60 percent from the floor in the half, to put them ahead by a
score of 40-28 at halftime.
The second half held
more of the same, as Covenant continued to build upon the lead that was
established from the opening tip off.
Covenant’s Ben Britt
led all scorers in the game with 23 points.
Leading the way for
Milligan was junior Zach Dezarn (Franklin, Ohio), who scored 19
points, including a 5-of-7 night from three point range.
The loss drops
Milligan to an even 9-9 overall, and 4-7 in the Appalachian Athletic
Conference. Covenant improves to 6-12 overall and 5-5 in the AAC.
Milligan will look to
bounce back on Thursday, Jan. 19, at home against Tennessee Wesleyan
College. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
