MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February
7, 2006)---The Milligan College men’s basketball team
defeated Brevard College by a score of 72-69 in a thrilling
round of Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Tuesday
night at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
The
victory snaps an eight-game losing streak for the Buffs, and
improves their overall record to 10-15, and their conference
mark to 4-12. With the loss, Brevard extends their losing
streak to 11 games, and falls to 4-23 overall and 2-16 in
the conference.
The game
was tight for its entirety, and the first half ended with
the score knotted at 35.
Brevard
controlled the lead for much of the second half, and
featured four players with double digit scoring nights.
Rashad Mosley led the way with 18 points.
Milligan,
after trailing by as many as 10 points in the second half,
managed to pull the game to within one on two Zach Dezarn
(Franklin, Ohio) freethrows with just 46 seconds
remaining on the game clock.
Brevard
then stalled as nearly 35 seconds ran off the clock, but
with just 10 seconds remaining, Brevard’s Rayshaun Johnson
missed a jumper that changed the fate of the game.
The
rebound from Johnson’s errant shot went into the hands of
Milligan freshman Tino Washington (Lexington, Ky.),
who alertly passed the ball on to a wide open Dezarn who had
found his way behind all of Brevard’s defenders.
Dezarn, who led all scorers
with 19 points in the game, nailed the lay up to give
Milligan the lead and the win.
Tony
Brogan
(Tazewell, Tenn.), Adrian Harrison (Greensboro,
N.C.), and Adam Hughes (Bluff City, Tenn.) were also
strong offensive contributors with 12, 11 and 11 points
respectively.
The Buffs
will look to begin a winning streak this Thursday, Feb. 9,
in a conference match up with Tennessee Wesleyan College.
That game, at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse, will begin at 7:30 p.m.
