Lady Buffs shut out Union in victory

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (October 14, 2006)---The Milligan College women’s soccer team defeated visiting Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) rival Union (Ky.) College by a score of 4-0 on Saturday at Anglin Field.

Rosanna Couture (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) had another fine game in goal for the Lady Buffs, with five saves in her seventh shutout of the season and an offensive onslaught of 31 shots (15 on goal) paved the way for Milligan’s four goals.

Freshman standout Hanna Lovbrand (Orebro, Sweden) got the scoring started in the 13th minute with an assist from Dagmar Arnardottir (Kopvagur, Iceland). Lovbrand also scored the Lady Buffs’ last goal of the game in the 61st minute off of a deflected Laurie Selman (Jackson, Miss.) shot.

Lovbrand now has 13 goals in her freshman season.

Kristin Zutt (Louisville, Ky.) scored in the 29th minute on a shot from 18 yards out that was just beyond the reach of Union goalkeeper Brittany Puryear. Puryear recorded 11 saves in the loss.

Zutt also added an assist on Sarah Sereno’s (Williamsport, Penn.) goal in the 57th minute.

The victory moves Milligan’s record to 8-7 overall and 5-3 in the AAC. Union drops to 4-11 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

The Lady Buffs will play again on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m. versus Southern Virginia University at Anglin Field.
