Milligan shuts out Spalding, 5-0

LOUISVILLE, KY (September 1, 2006) --- The Milligan College women’s soccer team defeated Region XII foe Spalding University with a 5-0 shutout Friday evening in Louisville, Ky. With the win, Milligan improves to 2-1 on the season while Spalding loses their season opener.

Milligan jumped in front 1-0 in the 13th minute when Louisville native Megan Elrod scored on a corner kick. The assist came from Dagmar Arnardottir (Kopvagur, Iceland). The second goal for the Lady Buffs came in the 32nd minute when Hanna Lovbrand (Orebro, Sweden) scored her second goal in as many games with an assist from Louisville Christian Academy graduate Kristin Zutt.

Zutt added her own goal in the 40th minute as senior Laurie Selman (Jackson, Miss.) provided the assist.

The first of Milligan’s second half goals came from Arnardottir in the 70th minute with an assist from Katie Kiebler (Lexington, Ky.) The final goal of the match, in the 87th minute, was from Katie King (Knoxville, Tenn.) The goal was the first of her collegiate career. Beth Toner (Rote, Pa.) provided King with the assist.

In goal for the Lady Buffs, Rosanna Couture (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) recorded three saves in her second straight shutout. Milligan out shot Spalding 20-4 in the match.

Milligan will return to action against Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) rival King (Tenn.) College (0-1, 0-0 AAC) on Wednesday, September 6. The match in Bristol, Tenn. is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
