MILLIGAN COLLEGE,
TN (September 9, 2006) --- The Milligan College
Lady Buffs’ soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat at
the hands of No. 15 Covenant (Ga.) College Lady
Scots Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field.
Covenant scored the game winning goal in the 88th
minute of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC)
contest.
The game-winning goal for Covenant came from
Becky Galage. The Lady Scots gained the
advantage by winning a loose ball near midfield
and then quickly played it for Galage’s
break-away goal.
Milligan’s
Sarah Sereno (Williamsport, Pa.)
played the ball at midfield then clipped it over
the Covenant backs down to freshman
Hanna Lovbrand
(Orebro, Sweden) racing down the right side.
Lovbrand stalled, took a touch and slotted it
into the near post. The goal came in the 57th
minute with the assist from
Katie Kiebler
(Lexington, Ky.) to tie the match 1-1.
Covenant’s first goal was scored by Rebecca
Sasser in the 20th minute.
In goal for Milligan,
Rosanna Couture
(Oakville, Ontario, Canada) stopped nine shots
while her Covenant counterpart, Anna Meiners
racked up seven saves. Milligan was able to take
more shots then Covenant. The Lady Buffs took 15
shots, compared to Covenant’s 14.
“I am really proud of the way the team battled
back after a poor performance at King on a day’s
rest to against one of the Top-15 teams in the
country,” said Milligan head coach
Dave Dixon.
“I think we turned the corner with our mentality
today and the best things are ahead of us.”
With the results, Milligan now stands at 2-3
overall and 1-2 in the AAC. Covenant moves to
3-1 and wins their AAC opener.
Next for the Lady Buffs is a road contest at
Brevard College, in Brevard N.C., on Wednesday,
September 13. The match is scheduled to begin at
2 p.m.
