MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (August 30, 2006)---The Milligan College women’s soccer team defeated Bryan College by a score of 8-0 in the opening game of the 2006 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) season. Returning All-AAC and All-Region XII forward Dagmar Arnardottir (Kopvagur, Iceland) scored five consecutive goals.

Senior Kristin Zutt (Louisville, Ky.) got the scoring started early with a goal in the second minute, with freshman Hannah Lovbrand (Orebro, Sweden) notching the first of her four assists in the game.

From there, Arnardottir took over. The senior forward scored first in the fourth minute, then four more times before the game had reached the 60-minute mark.

Senior Sarah Sereno (Williamsport, Pa.) added a goal in the 64th minute, and Lovbrand scored the first goal of her Milligan career from 30 yards out in the 81st minute.

Milligan head coach Dave Dixon was excited about the conference opener. “I was excited to see the way we were scoring goals,” he said. “I saw a lot of the things we’ve been working on being executed. We were able to hold on to the ball pretty well.”

The win improves Milligan to 1-1 overall on the year and 1-0 in AAC play. Bryan drops to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

While the good start has Dixon happy for now, he knows that the remaining conference games will prove a formidable task. “We’ve got a lot of work left to do,” he added.

The Lady Buffs will return to action on Friday, Sept. 1, in Louisville, Ky., against Spalding University. The match is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
