NC (November 18, 2006) --- Pfeiffer women's
basketball team dominated Milligan College in their
home opener Saturday afternoon by a score of 86-66.
Tamara Clay scored 29 points to lead the Falcons
(2-0). Pfeiffer's pressure defense held the
Buffaloes to 32% shooting and forced 22 turnovers.
Pfeiffer controlled the game from the opening tap
and never trailed during the contest. Tamara Clay
set the pace for the Falcons with her outstanding
defense starting numerous fast breaks as the Falcons
capitalized with 18 points off of 15 Buffaloes’
turnovers. Clay had 6 steals in the first half.
Raven Truslow controlled the inside scoring 11 first
half points and grabbing four rebounds. Milligan
shot only 28% from the floor as the Falcons pulled
away to a 19 point halftime lead.
The Falcons did not let up at the start of the
second half. Their pressure defense again led to
several fast breaks and the Falcons stretched their
lead to 35, 75-40, at one point. Milligan fought
back thanks to 4-8 shooting from beyond the arc and
numerous offensive rebounds but could never get the
Falcon lead to under 20. Pfeiffer ended up with an
86-66 victory.
Pfeiffer was led by Clay's 29 points and 8 steals.
Lauren Brittingham scored 22, including hitting 4 of
5 three point shots. Truslow finished with 17 points
and 8 rebounds. Cathi Kennings dished out 5
assists.
Candace Shelton led Milligan with 10 points and
Rikki Baughman pulled down 13 rebounds. Pfeiffer
shot 51% from the field for the game while Milligan
shot 32%. Milligan outrebounded Pfeiffer 40-37 for
the game.
Pfeiffer will return to action Tuesday when they
open conference play by hosting Mount Olive at 5:30
p.m.
Milligan (0-3) will play at Tennessee Temple
University Monday evening at 7:00 p.m.
