CLEVELAND, TN (November 4, 2006)---The Milligan College
women’s basketball team lost their inaugural game of the
2006-2007 season by a score of 77-50 to NAIA Division I
No. 8 Lee University on Saturday afternoon in Cleveland,
Tenn.
The Lady Buffs trailed by 10 at halftime and had the
lead down to as little as eight points in the second
half, but a late shooting drought cost them the
opportunity to seize the lead.
“Our shooting let us down today,” head coach Rich Aubrey
said. “Even when we were in the game, we did not shoot
the ball well at all. To play with a team like Lee for
40 minutes, we needed a better shooting performance.
But I really believe that part of the game will come for
us.”
Milligan was just 15 of 55 shooting in the game,
compared to Lee’s 27 of 59.
Leading the way for the Lady Buffs was Rikki Baughman
(Elizabethton, Tenn.) who scored 11 points, all by way
of free throws, and tallied eight rebounds. Leah
Anderson (Lexington, Ky.) also chipped in with nine
points and seven rebounds. Candace Shelton (Flag
Pond, Tenn.) had eight points while Hali Sparks
(Erwin, Tenn.), Kacie Letterman (Gray, Tenn.) and
Kara Monk (Harriman, Tenn.) had seven points
apiece.
The
loss drops Milligan’s record to 0-1 on the season.
The Lady Buffs will return to action on Saturday, Nov.
11, in Berea, Ky., against Berea College at 5:30 p.m.
