Milligan tennis fares well at ITA

21, 2006)---Melissa Grgat (Melbourne, Australia), Ryan
Reynolds (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Charles Williams (Perth,
Australia) all advanced to the third round of the Intercollegiate Tennis
Association’s Southeast Regional Tournament today in Jackson, Tenn.
Grgat advanced on a first round bye and went on to win in straight sets
6-2, 6-2 in the second round over Cumberland University’s Beatriz Mompo.
Reynolds also picked up a first round bye, then defeated Brian Simon of
Cumberland, 6-2, 6-0 and Williams picked up two wins, defeating George
Rohit from King College 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 in the first round and Bethel
College’s Lucas Cavolo 6-7, 7-5, 7-5, (7-5) in the second round.
Also competing for Milligan were Sara Hopson (Greeneville,
Tenn.), Krissi Denton (Bristol, Tenn.), Amber Campbell
(Erwin, Tenn.), Jonathan Ryan (Wangaratta, Australia), Tom
Jones (Johnson City, Tenn.) All lost their first round matches in
singles competition.
In doubles competition, Milligan’s duo of Ryan and Williams picked up a
first round victory, while Jones and Reynolds were defeated after a
first round bye.
For the women in doubles competition, both the pairs of Denton and Grgat
and Hopson and Campbell were involved in matches in play at press time.
Action will continue tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m. in Jackson, Tenn.
