ETSU Fall Classic Results and Draws
JOHNSON CITY,
TN (September 15, 2006) --- In the first
day of the ETSU Fall Classic, Milligan
was able to win key matches on both the
men’s and women’s side of the bracket.
Milligan saw strong performances from
freshman
Melissa
Grgat (Melbourne, Australia)
and the Johnson City duo of
Ryan
Reynolds and
Tom
Jones.
Grgat defeated Trish Hanson, the No. 1
player from NCAA Division I member
Western Carolina University. Grgat won
7-6, 3-6, (10-6) to advance to the Gold
Bracket semifinals. Grgat will play
Lincoln Memorial University’s Helena
Sokolova at 9:20 a.m. Saturday morning.
Grgat along with her double’s partner,
Krissi Denton (Bristol,
Tenn.) won their opening round contest
but lost to Georgia Southern
University’s team of Kegerreis and
Reynolds. Grgat and Denton will play at
8:00 a.m. Saturday morning in a
consolation match.
In the men’s draw, Reynolds and Jones
defeated Carson-Newman’s team of Swanson
and Harvie 8-3 then won their semifinal
contest to advance to the first flight
championship match.
The men’s brackets for singles
competition saw Reynolds hand Taylan
Batuk, from Mars Hill College, a loss to
move into the Gold Bracket semifinals.
The Blue Bracket saw Milligan freshmen
Charles Williams (Perth,
Australia) and
Johnathon Ryan (Wangaratta,
Australia) advance to their semifinal
contest. Reynolds, Williams and Ryan
will play at 9:20 a.m. Saturday.
Janie Mullins
(Greenville, Ala.) won in her collegiate
debut for Milligan. Mullins, in the
Orange Bracket, will play Camila Noldin
from Radford (Va.) University Saturday
at 9:20 a.m.
All men’s matches are on campus at ETSU
while the women will play at the Liberty
Bell Tennis Complex, in Johnson City.
All action is scheduled to begin at 8
a.m. at both sites Saturday morning.
