EMORY, VA (October 12, 2006)---Milligan’s Ron Worrell picked up his first win as head coach of the Lady Buffs Thursday afternoon with a victory at Emory and Henry College. Milligan women’s tennis team defeated the Lady Wasps of Emory and Henry 9-0.

Milligan swept the doubles portion of the match. Melissa Grgat (Melbourne, Australia) and Krissi Denton (Bristol, Tenn.) defeated Kayla Carter and Lauren Musick in No. 1 doubles, while Sara Hopson (Greeneville, Tenn.) and Janie Mullins (Greenville, Ala.) won their No. 2 doubles match over Emily Cockerham and Candice McFadden. Finally, Mandy Caston (Moncks Corner, S.C.) and Kelley Yates (Indianapolis, Ind.) defeated Amanda Stickland and Kendall Payne in the No. 3 doubles. All three matches ended in an 8-3 victory for the Lady Buffs.

Amber Campbell (Erwin, Tenn.) won 7-5, 5-7 (10-1) over Payne in a No. 3 singles match. Denton won 6-0, 6-0 over Musick. Grgat continues a successful freshman campaign with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Carter. Hopson was victorious in No. 4 singles, 7-5, 7-5, over Cockerham, and Mullins and Caston won their singles matches as well.

The Lady Buffs will return to the court Friday, October 27, against Virginia Intermont College. The match will begin at 2 pm at the Mathis Tennis Center.
