BRISTOL, TN (September 8, 2006) --- The Milligan
College men’s and women’s soccer teams both lost to
Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) rival King
(Tenn.) College in matches held Thursday afternoon
in Bristol, Tenn. The men’s match saw King take away
a 4-3 victory while the Lady Buffs of Milligan lost
2-0.
With the results, the Buffaloes now stand at 2-2
overall and 0-1 in the AAC while the Lady Buffs are
now 1-1 in the conference and 2-2 overall.
In the men’s match, King’s Alex Mendy scored in the
third minute to give King the early advantage. The
Buffs’ Said Abdi
(Kismaayo, Somalia) scored to tie the match at 1-1.
Mendy struck again with a penalty kick goal to give
King a 2-1 lead.
Stuart Makinson (Franklin, N.C.) scored
the second goal for the Buffs to take the match into
halftime tied 2-2.
Mitch Thomas struck with a goal in the 49th
minute to give the lead back to King. Milligan’s

David Lilly
(Coatbridge, Scotland) scored late in the second
half to tie the match 3-3, but a goal from Garren
Parkins put King in front for good, 4-3.
Meanwhile, on the women’s side, King took the early
lead, seven minutes into the match when Emma Wells
scored. King’s second goal came in the 50th
minute on a goal from Katrina Freking to make the
score 2-0.
Milligan’s Rosanna Couture stopped four shots in
goal for the Lady Buffs.
Both the men’s and women’s teams return to action
Saturday afternoon against Covenant College. The
Scots and Lady Scots of Covenant visit Milligan’s
Anglin Field for their AAC matchup. The Lady Scots
of Covenant are currently ranked 15th in
the latest NAIA National Poll. The women’s match is
scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s
match at 4:30 p.m.
