Milligan Soccer advances to AAC Semifinals

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (October 30, 2006) --- The Milligan College men’s soccer team, the top-seed and regular season champion, started the 2006 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament with a 2-0 victory against eighth-seeded Union (Ky.) College Monday evening at Anglin Field.

Milligan, ranked No. 25 in the most recent NAIA National Ratings, scored a goal in each half for the victory. The first goal came 11 minutes in when senior David Lilly (Coatbridge, Scotland) headed a corner kick from Said Abdi (Kismaayo, Somalia) into the back of the net. The Buffs would not score again until the 86th minute. Kyle Wilcox (Indianapolis, Ind.) put in a rebound off shots taken by Abdi and Josh Stephens (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.)

In goal for the Buffs, senior Jordan Fode (Surrey, British Columbia, Canada) stopped all three of Union’s shots to post his eighth shut out of the season, a conference high.

With the win, Milligan improves to 13-6 on the season and the Buffs will advance the AAC semifinal to be played Friday, November 3, in Chattanooga, Tenn. Milligan will play the winner of the Bryan (Tenn.) College and Virginia Intermont College quarterfinal match at 4 p.m. followed by the other semifinal contest, between  King (Tenn.) College and Montreat (N.C.) College. King advanced with a 5-1 win over Tennessee Wesleyan College and Montreat shut out Covenant (Ga.) College 1-0 in earlier action Monday.
