MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Mobile
men's soccer squad used some brilliant goal
scoring and goal keeping to take down the
Milligan College Buffaloes.
In a match that was closely contested from
start to finish, Daniel Waters got the Rams
started off right when he headed home a
cross from teammate Lance Nelson at the 8
minute mark to stake the team to an early
1-0 lead.
That lead didn't last long, as Milligan's
Caleb Bollman got positioning deep in the
box and knocked home a goal to tie the match
at 1-1. The teams stalemated for the rest of
the first half, then Mobile came through
with a couple of brilliant plays to win the
match.
At the 64:30 mark, it looked like Milligan
would take the lead when Said Abdi was taken
down in the box and getting ready for a
penalty kick. Fortunately for the Rams,
senior goalkeeper James Beggs made a diving
stop to preserve the tie and give his team
new life.
They found that new life at the 66 minute
mark when Edgar Morales received a rebound
off a corner he had just taken. Morales then
kicked an absolute blast from the far corner
of the box to the opposite corner of the
goal for the game-winning kick and the final
margin of victory.
The men's soccer team is now 5-5 on the
season with its next match set for October
11th at Auburn University-Montgomery.
Milligan (5-5) will play an Appalachian
Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday,
October 4 at Tennessee Wesleyan College.
