Buffs edged by No. 11 Lindenwood

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (September 22, 2006)---The Milligan College men’s soccer team was narrowly defeated by NAIA No. 11 Lindenwood University by a score of 1-0 on Friday night at Anglin Field.

The only score of the game came in the 17th minute when Lindenwood’s Gerardo Chavez guided a ball past Milligan goalkeeper Jordan Fode (Surrey, British Columbia, Canada).

Fode had three saves on the night.

Milligan was not without opportunities, as they out shot Lindenwood by a count of 15 to eight, and managed eight corner kicks to Lindenwood’s five. The Buffs were unable to tie the game however, as Lindenwood goalkeeper Sanel Boric had three saves to preserve the shutout.

Both David Lilly (Coatbridge, Scotland) and Caleb Bollman (Avon, Ind.) had four shots for the Buffs.

The loss drops Milligan’s overall record to 4-3 on the season. They remain 2-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play. With the victory, Lindenwood improves to 4-2 on the year.

The Milligan men will be in action again tomorrow, Sept. 23, in Spartanburg, S.C. against the University of South Carolina Upstate in a match to begin at 7 p.m.
