Milligan downs Cumberland, 2-1
MILLIGAN COLLEGE,
TN (October 21, 2006)---The Milligan College men’s soccer team
defeated visiting Cumberland (Tenn.) University by a score of 2-1
Saturday night at Anglin Field.
The Buffs’
David Lilly (Coatbridge, Scotland) got the scoring started in
the 13th minute. Milligan did not relinquish the lead.
Michael
Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) tacked on the second goal just
after halftime in the 47th minute.
Cumberland was able to cut the lead to one in the 51st
minute, but unable to rally to tie the game as Milligan controlled
the ball for much of the second half, out shooting Cumberland by a
count of 14-5.
Milligan goalkeeper Jordan Fode (Surrey, British Columbia,
Canada) recorded five saves for the Buffs in the victory.
The win moves Milligan’s record to 11-6 overall. The Buffs finished
7-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. Cumberland falls
to 6-8 overall with the loss.
Milligan will
return to action Monday, Oct. 23 at 3:30 p.m. in Brevard, N.C.,
against Brevard College. The AAC Conference Tournament is set to
begin Oct. 28.
