Lilly's goal enough for Milligan victory

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (September 9, 2006) --- The Milligan College men’s soccer team saw their lone goal coming from senior David Lilly (Coatbridge, Scotland) in the 6th minute in a 1-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory over Covenant (Ga.) College. The match, held on Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field, saw Milligan improve their record to 1-1 in conference play and 3-2 overall. Covenant falls to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the AAC.

Freshman standout Said Abdi (Kismaayo, Somalia) beat the Covenant defender then played the ball to Lilly for his first-time goal.

Milligan’s senior goalkeeper Jordan Fode (Surrey, British Columbia, Canada) was able to post his first shut-out of the season. Fode kept all nine of Covenant’s shots from going in, preserving the Buffs’ win. Milligan was able to attempt 13 shots in the match.

“I am really pleased with the first half performance and we lost some of our composure in the second half,” Milligan head coach Dave Dixon stated after the match. “We were able to regain our composure and finish the game with a strong push, which is what good teams do.”

The next match for the Buffs is scheduled for Wednesday, September 13 at Brevard (N.C.) College at 4 p.m.
