Milligan's Marcus Loef battles

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (August 29, 2006) – The
Milligan College men’s soccer team started 2006
with a victory over visiting California Baptist
University Tuesday night at Anglin Field. The
Buffs defeated California Baptist by the score
of 2-1. After the win, Milligan now stands at
1-0 while California Baptist falls to 1-2.
The scoring started early in the first half as
Kyle Wilcox
(Indianapolis, Ind.) scored in the fourth minute
to put the Buffs in front 1-0.
Stuart Makinson
(Franklin, N.C.) provided the assist to Wilcox.
California Baptist answered with an unassisted
goal from Fashinu-Ron Nesbeth in the 14th
minute to tie the match 1-1.
Milligan took the lead in the 31st
minute after
Travis Philips (Winston-Salem, N.C.)
scored his first collegiate goal with an assist
from Makinson. With a 2-1 lead, the Buffs held
on for the final 59 minutes for the victory.
The Buffs’ senior
Jordan Fode
(Surrey, British Columbia, Canada) recorded five
saves in goal against California Baptist while
Josh Blanco accounted for eight saves for
California Baptist. Milligan attempted 16 shots
against the Lancers of California Baptist, while
the Lancers were able to get 11 shots off in the
match.
Milligan will return to the field Friday,
September 1 at NAIA Region XII foe Spalding
(Ky.) University. The match is scheduled to
begin at 5 p.m. in Louisville.
