MOUNTAIN, GA (November 5,
2004)--- The third seeded Milligan College Soccer team defeated
second seed King (Tenn.) College 2-1 in an Appalachian Athletic
Conference semifinal contest Friday afternoon to advance into
the AAC Tournament Championship game to play AAC regular season
champions Covenant (Ga.) College. With the win, Milligan
improves to 13-6-1 on the season.
King jumped
out to a 1-0 halftime lead only to see the Buffaloes bounce back
behind senior Steven Townley (Adelaide, Australia).
Townley scored two second half goals with both assist from AAC
Player of the Year senior Ali Mohamed (Nairobi, Kenya).
Townley earned the Golden Boot
award in the AAC with his nine goals during the regular season
and with his two in this match, he raises his season total to
11.
I am happy
with the win, said Milligan head coach Marty Shirley, Jordan
Fode (goalkeeper) had a big game for us and we look forward
to playing Covenant for the championship.
The Buffaloes
will play the AAC regular season champions Covenant Saturday
morning as the tournament championship game begins at 11:30 a.m.
Milligan also qualified for the NAIA Region XII tournament that
begins Tuesday November 9.
Milligan
received a team award at the AAC Banquet; the Buffaloes were
named the Champion of Character team in the conference for the
2004 season.
This is a special team goal we have had this season, said
Shirley, referring to the Champions of Character award.
