MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (January
22, 2005) --- The Milligan College Buffaloes (11-10, 8-5 AAC)
lost an Appalachian Athletic Conference contest to the Union
(Ky.) College (9-14, 7-6 AAC) Bulldogs by a 85-74 margin
Saturday evening at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Milligan
head coach Tony Wallingford called two early time
outs as Union took control of the contest as they led 18-6
five minutes into the game. The Bulldogs were in front by as
many as 20 points in the first half but Milligan clawed back
into the game late in the half as sophomore guard Adam
Hughes (Bluff City, Tenn.) scored with 6 seconds left to
make the score 43-35 in Union’s favor.
The
second half started red hot for Milligan as the Buffs went
on an 11-0 run over the first three minutes to turn the
score around 46-43 in the Buffs’ favor. Both teams traded
baskets and 5-0 runs in the middle of the second half as the
score was tied 59-59 with less than 10 minutes left.
Milligan
could not come back as Union pulled away down the stretch.
The Buffs could only get within five points down the stretch
as Milligan’s freshman guard Yony Kifle (Grundy, Va.)
hit a three point basket with 1:25 left to make the score
79-74 in favor of Union.
Yony Kifle
led all scorers with his 27 points for Milligan. Chris
Stunson led Union with 20 points. Senior forwards
Craig Emmert (Cass City, Mich.) and Todd Davis
(Corbin, Ky.) scored 16 and 12 points respectively for the
Buffaloes. Emmert also grabbed 10 rebounds. Josh Andrews,
Aaron Troutman and Joe Bramlage scored in
double digits for Union with 12, 10 and 10 respectively.
Next for
Milligan is an AAC road game as the Buffaloes travel to play
King (Tenn.) College Tuesday January 25 for a 7:30 p.m.
contest. Milligan won the December 1 game by an 80-78 score.
