(February 5, 2005) --- The Milligan College Buffaloes
(14-12, 10-8 AAC) defeated UVA-Wise (3-23, 3-15 AAC) in
Appalachian Athletic Conference action by a score of 74-53
in Wise Saturday evening.
Senior
forward Craig Emmert (Cass City, Mich.) led the Buffs
in scoring with 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Freshman
point guard Yony Kifle (Grundy, Va.) added 12 points
while dishing out five assist. A pair of guards Joe Brown
(Blountville, Tenn.) and Jordan Simmons (Erwin,
Tenn.) also scored in double-digits with 11 and 10 points
respectively.
UVA-Wise was led by Blake
Mellinger with 14 points.
“The team
played well tonight,” said Milligan assistant coach Tae
Norwood, “we were able to shut their offense down with
great team defense tonight.”
Milligan
out shot the Cavaliers 53.3 pct (24-45) to 33.3 pct (18-54)
and the Buffs out rebounded UVA-Wise 38-29 in the victory.
Next for
Milligan is an AAC home contest against Brevard (N.C.)
College Tuesday at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse as tip off is
scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Brevard won the earlier match-up on
January 6 by a 74-68 score at Brevard.
