Five Buffs named NAIA All-American honorable mention

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (December 6, 2006) --- Five Milligan College men’s soccer players were selected as NAIA All-American honorable mentions for their outstanding play during the 2006 season. Seniors David Lilly (Coatbridge, Scotland), Jordan Fode (Surrey, British Columbia, Canada), Justin Fuller (Indianapolis, Ind.), junior Kyle Wilcox (Indianapolis, Ind.) and freshman Said Abdi (Kissmayo, Somalia) earned the honor, and all five were also selected as first-team NAIA All-Region XII players.

“It is a tremendous achievement for this many players to receive such an honor,” said Milligan head coach Dave Dixon. “I’m very excited for them as they all have worked very hard this season and they are very deserving of this award.”

Lilly, a two-time NAIA Region XII and Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Player of the Year, scored 15 goals and had seven assists during the Buffs’ impressive run to the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship. In the AAC Tournament, Lilly scored two goals as the Buffs won the tournament, after capturing the AAC regular season championship. This is the second consecutive season Lilly, earned honorable mention All-American honors.

Fode recorded 12 shutouts, including a shut out in the first round of the NAIA National Championship over Concordia (Ore.) University. He did not allow a goal during the AAC Tournament. During the post season, Fode only allowed two goals in seven matches during the AAC Tournament, NAIA Region XII Tournament and NAIA National Championship. In 2006, Fode recorded 73 saves in 25 matches

Abdi led the team with ten assist and added eight goals during his first season at Milligan. His 26 points was second on the team, behind Lilly. In the Buffs’ 1-0 victory over Concordia in the opening round of the NAIA National Championship, Abdi scored in the 83rd minute to send Milligan to the second round.

Wilcox was second on the team with his eight goals scored in 2006. Two of his goals were two of the most important goals in Milligan soccer history, both in the NAIA Region XII Championship match. The first goal gave Milligan a 2-1 lead when Wilcox booted in a penalty kick in the 77th minute. His second goal of the match came 24 seconds later to put the Buffs in front 3-1 en route to the Region XII Championship and earn a birth to the NAIA National Championship.

Fuller was credited with seven assist from his defender position. He also played a key part of the Buffs’ strong defense, along with Fode, that allowed only 23 goals in the 25 games.

The Buffs ended a historic 2006 with a school record 18 wins. Milligan also won their first AAC regular season championship, NAIA Region XII championship, played in their first NAIA National Championship and won their first National Championship match during their 18-6 season.
