Five
Buffs named NAIA All-American honorable
mention

--- Five Milligan College men’s soccer
players were selected as NAIA
All-American honorable mentions for
their outstanding play during the 2006
season. Seniors
David
Lilly (Coatbridge, Scotland),
Jordan Fode (Surrey, British
Columbia, Canada),
Justin
Fuller (Indianapolis, Ind.),
junior
Kyle
Wilcox (Indianapolis, Ind.)
and freshman
Said
Abdi (Kissmayo, Somalia)
earned the
honor, and all five were also selected
as first-team NAIA All-Region XII
players.
“It is a tremendous achievement for this
many players to receive such an honor,”
said Milligan head coach
Dave
Dixon. “I’m very excited for
them as they all have worked very hard
this season and they are very deserving
of this award.”
Lilly, a two-time NAIA Region XII and
Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC)
Player of the Year, scored 15 goals and
had seven assists during the Buffs’
impressive run to the NAIA Men’s Soccer
National Championship. In the AAC
Tournament, Lilly scored two goals as
the Buffs won the tournament, after
capturing the AAC regular season
championship. This is the second
consecutive season Lilly, earned
honorable mention All-American honors.
Fode recorded 12 shutouts, including a
shut out in the first round of the NAIA
National Championship over Concordia
(Ore.) University. He did not allow a
goal during the AAC Tournament. During
the post season, Fode only allowed two
goals in seven matches during the AAC
Tournament, NAIA Region XII Tournament
and NAIA National Championship. In 2006,
Fode recorded 73 saves in 25 matches
Abdi led the team with ten assist and
added eight goals during his first
season at Milligan. His 26 points was
second on the team, behind Lilly. In the
Buffs’ 1-0 victory over Concordia in the
opening round of the NAIA National
Championship, Abdi scored in the 83rd
minute to send Milligan to the second
round.
Wilcox was second on the team with his
eight goals scored in 2006. Two of his
goals were two of the most important
goals in Milligan soccer history, both
in the NAIA Region XII Championship
match. The first goal gave Milligan a
2-1 lead when Wilcox booted in a penalty
kick in the 77th minute. His
second goal of the match came 24 seconds
later to put the Buffs in front 3-1 en
route to the Region XII Championship and
earn a birth to the NAIA National
Championship.
Fuller was credited with seven assist
from his defender position. He also
played a key part of the Buffs’ strong
defense, along with Fode, that allowed
only 23 goals in the 25 games.
The Buffs ended a historic 2006 with a
school record 18 wins. Milligan also won
their first AAC regular season
championship, NAIA Region XII
championship, played in their first NAIA
National Championship and won their
first National Championship match during
their 18-6 season.
