MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February
19, 2007) --- The Milligan College women’s basketball team
and Covenant (Ga.) College will play each other Thursday
afternoon in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC)
Tournament first-round contest. Tip off is scheduled for
3:30 p.m. at King College, the host site for the AAC
Tournament.
Milligan enter as the No. 5
seed while Covenant finished tied for third, but due to the
tie breakers the Lady Scots ended up with the No. 4 seed.
The Lady Buffs finished the AAC season with an 11-7 record
while Covenant was one game better, with their 12-6 mark.
Milligan won their first meeting, 77-68, on January 6, in
Lookout Mountain. Covenant evened the season series with
their 71-59 win February 7 at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
The Lady Buffs ended the
regular season with an overall record of 18-12. Milligan’s
riding a four-game winning streak into the postseason,
including Saturday night’s 79-63 win over Montreat (N.C.)
College. In the month of February, Milligan is 5-2 so far
including a 74-71 win over Bryan (Tenn.) College, the AAC
regular-season champions.
Covenant, 18-9 overall, was
defeated by Tennessee Wesleyan College 71-69, in overtime,
Saturday afternoon in a battle for second place in the
conference. Over their last 11 games, the Lady Scots went
9-2, with their only losses coming to Bryan and Tennessee
Wesleyan.
The tournament begins Wednesday
afternoon with two games, No. 7 Virginia Intermont and No.
10 Bluefield (Va.) College will battle at 1 p.m. No. 8 UVA-Wise
will play No. 9 Montreat at 6 p.m. will end the first day of
the women’s action.
On Thursday, the first round
begins with No. 3 King playing No. 6 Union (Ky.) College at
8:30 a.m. The other game of the morning session will feature
Tennessee Wesleyan facing the winner between Virginia
Intermont and Bluefield. The Milligan and Covenant game will
begin the afternoon session at 3:30 p.m., followed by No. 1
Bryan against the winner of the UVA-Wise/Montreat game at
5:15 p.m.
