McKeehan named AAC Co-Freshman of the Year

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February 21, 2007) --- Milligan’s freshman standout Danny McKeehan (Morrow, Ohio) was named Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Co-Freshman of the Year. He finished his first season as a Buffalo with 13.1 points per game which ranked third on the team and 14th in the AAC. McKeehan shared the award with Clarence Smith from King College.

The announcement was made at the AAC awards ceremony Wednesday evening in Bristol, Tenn.

Sophomore Jeff Barnes (Franklin, Tenn.) earned a second-team All-AAC spot. Barnes led Milligan with his 15.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game this season. His 10.1 rebounds per game also ranked second in the AAC and seventh nationally in NAIA Division II. Barnes also ranked ninth in the AAC in the scoring leaders and fourth in field goal percentage categories.  

Senior Zach Dezarn (Franklin, Ohio) was voted third-team All-AAC. Dezarn finished his final season second on the team and 11th in the AAC with 14.4 points per game. He also ranked second in the conference’s 3-point field goal percentage category, 44.4 percent from behind the arc.

Barnes along with teammates Joe Brown (Blountville, Tenn.) and Josh Terry (Jonesville, Va.) earned Academic All-AAC honors.

Milligan will battle a familiar foe in their first-round contest of the AAC Tournament. The Buffs, the No. 4 seed, will play No. 5 King College Thursday evening at 7 p.m. The AAC Tournament is at King’s Student Activity Center in Bristol. Both teams enter with identical 13-5 AAC records. The season series between the two was split, with the visitors winning both games. Milligan defeated King, 76-59, in their first match up on December 5 in Bristol, but King evened the season series with a 92-79 win on January 27 inside the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

Buffs to play King in AAC first-round contest

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (February 19, 2007) --- The Milligan College men’s basketball team will play rival King College Thursday evening in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament first-round match up. Their game will be played at 7 p.m. at King College, the host site for the entire AAC Tournament.

Both teams enter with identical 13-5 AAC records, but Milligan won the tie breaker over King, making the Buffs the fourth seed and King the fifth seed. The season series between the two was split, with the visitors winning both games. Milligan defeated King, 76-59, in their first match up on December 5 in Bristol. King evened the season series with a 92-79 win on January 27 inside the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

Milligan, 22-8 overall, ends the regular season on a six-game winning streak, including five straight AAC games. The Buffs ended the conference season with a thrilling 95-93 double-overtime win over Montreat (N.C.) College Saturday night.

King enters the game with a 20-10 overall record and a four-game AAC winning streak. On Saturday night, the Tornado defeated Bryan (Tenn.) College 72-57 to end the regular season.

The tournament begins Wednesday afternoon with two games. The first game will tip off when No. 7 Covenant (Ga.) College and No. 10 Virginia Intermont College battle at 3 p.m. while No. 8 UVA-Wise and No. 9 Bryan will end the day with an 8 p.m. contest.

Thursday’s first round games will begin when No. 3 Montreat battle No. 6 Union (Ky.) College at noon followed by No. 2 Tennessee Wesleyan College taking on the winner between Covenant and Virginia Intermont at 1:45 p.m. The evening session begins with the Milligan-King contest at 7 p.m., and then No. 1 Bluefield (Va.) College will play the winner of the UVA-Wise and Bryan game at 8:45 p.m.
