Tuesday, September 28, 2004
Milligan College welcomes New York Times best-selling author Sharyn
McCrumb for a special lecture and book signing in Seeger Memorial Chapel
on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m.
McCrumb is an award-winning author of 17 novels and a short story
collection. Her latest novel,
Ghost
Riders,
received the 2004 Audie Award for Best Multi-voiced Narration.
Ghost
Riders
chronicles the Civil War in the southern mountains where neighbors became
enemies, and families were torn apart.
Through her novels, McCrumb celebrates her ancestry and the history and
folklore of Appalachia. Her work also traces the impact of music in the
Appalachian region. For the Sept. 28 event, she will be joined by musician
Jack Hinshelwood. Hinshelwood plays traditional Appalachian and Celtic
tunes on the guitar and fiddle.
In
addition to the evening program, McCrumb and Hinshelwood will also give a
presentation for students from 11 a.m. to noon in Seeger Memorial Chapel.
Both performances are sponsored by the Milligan College Arts Council and
are free and open to the public.
