Brief Description of Event: This production will mark the first ever
professional full production with full orchestra of the infamous opera
Carmen in the Tri-Cities areas. Carmen is one of the top ten
most-produced operas in the North America. And its music has been used
in all kinds of media, like TV commercials, cartoons (The Simpsons, The
Sesame Streets), musicals (Carmen Jones, 1943 by Oscar Hammerstein II),
movies (Carmen Jones, 1954; Carmen on Ice, 1990). Famous tunes include
Habanera (or "Dat's love" from Carmen Jones), and Toreador's song.
Synopsis: Carmen, a sensual young gipsy woman, seduces a naïve army
corporal, Don José. He gives up his career and Micaela (a peasant girl)
for Carmen, and becomes a smuggler. When Carmen turns her passion to
Escamillo (a toreador), Don José stabs her after she declares that she
will live free or die.
Background of the Performers:

roles with many opera companies, include San Francisco Opera,

the Gold Medal and George London Award from the National Institute for

of Manrico in Verdi's Il trovatore for the Compagnia d'opera italiana di
Milano international opera tour, stepping in for another tenor who
suddenly became ill. Mr. Hodel concluded a four year residency with
