Please Note: Nominations for the Homecoming 2026 Alumni and Friends Awards are now closed. Any nominations submitted after May 31, 2026 will be considered for the Homecoming 2027 awards cycle.

Young Alumni Award

The university sets and interprets nomination guidelines. The changing demographics of the Milligan community require that these guidelines be periodically reviewed and updated to more closely reflect our constituency.

Purpose

The Milligan University Young Alumni Award honors one outstanding alumnus who has graduated within the past 5 to 10 years and has emerged as an early leader in his or her professional career, community service, and continued engagement with the values and mission of Milligan University. This award recognizes a graduate whose achievements serve as an inspiration to others and exemplify the high standards set by Milligan in both their personal and professional life.

Qualifications
  • The candidate must have successfully completed a minimum of 24 credit hours at Milligan University.
  • The candidate must have graduated between 5 and 10 years prior to the date of nomination.
  • The candidate must have demonstrated significant achievement in their field (e.g., business, education, ministry, healthcare, arts, science, service, etc.).
  •  The candidate must exemplify high standards of integrity, Christian character, and a commitment to Milligan’s core values of faith, learning, and service.
Nomination Process

Nominations must include a completed nomination form and data supporting the candidate’s accomplishments. (This data may consist of statistics, newspaper clippings, letters of reference, etc.) Anonymous nominations will not be considered.

  • Nominations may be accepted from alumni, faculty, staff, administration, and relatives of nominees.
  • Nominations may remain active for three nominating periods.
  • Nominations received by June 1 of the calendar year will be considered for the calendar year; nominations received after June 1 will be considered in the following calendar year.

The selection committee consists of the Director of Alumni Relations, Milligan’s president, and University administrators.

Distinguished Alumni award

The university sets and interprets nomination guidelines. The changing demographics of the Milligan community require that these guidelines be periodically reviewed and updated to more closely reflect our constituency.

Purpose

The Distinguished Alumnus/a Award exists to honor those alumni who have brought distinction to Milligan University through a lifetime of committed Christian service and through personal and professional accomplishments.

Qualifications
  • The candidate must have successfully completed a minimum of 24 credit hours at Milligan.

  • Graduates from a traditional undergraduate program must have received their degree at least twenty years prior to date of nomination; graduates from a non-traditional program or a graduate program must have graduated a minimum of 5 years prior to date of nomination.

  • The candidate must have accomplished deeds of significance to society.

  • The candidate must be of the finest Christian character.

  • The candidate’s life and accomplishments must have brought distinction to Milligan University.

Nomination Process

Nominations must include a completed nomination form and data supporting the candidate’s accomplishments. (This data may consist of statistics, newspaper clippings, letters of reference, etc.) Anonymous nominations will not be considered.

  • Nominations may be accepted from alumni, faculty, staff, administration, and relatives of nominees.
  • Nominations may remain active for three nominating periods.
  • Nominations received by June 1 of the calendar year will be considered for the calendar year; nominations received after June 1 will be considered in the following calendar year.

The selection committee consists of the Director of Alumni Relations, Milligan’s president, and University administrators.

Professional Excellence Award

The university sets and interprets nomination guidelines. The changing demographics of the Milligan community require that these guidelines be periodically reviewed and updated to more closely reflect our constituency.

Purpose

The Milligan University Professional Excellence Award exists to honor those alumni who have excelled in their chosen field. It also serves to encourage and increase awareness of recipients’ notable achievements and contributions to their profession so that they might serve as an example for others to follow.

Qualifications
  • The candidate must have successfully completed a minimum of 24 credit hours at Milligan University.

  • The candidate must have graduated at least ten years prior to the date of nomination.

  • The candidate must have brought distinction to Milligan University through his/her career (i.e. business, education, missions, ministry, science, medicine, research, volunteer service, journalism, art, music, etc.).

  • The candidate must demonstrate high standards of integrity and Christian character.

Nomination Process

Nominations must include a completed nomination form and data supporting the candidate’s accomplishments. (This data may consist of statistics, newspaper clippings, letters of reference, etc.) Anonymous nominations will not be considered.

The George W. Hardin Spirit of Milligan Award is named after an alumnus who gave significant time, money and encouragement to the school, ensuring its continued existence. The honor is given to an alum or friend of the University who has poured himself or herself into the institution.

Athletics Hall of Fame

The university sets and interprets nomination guidelines. The changing demographics of the Milligan community require that these guidelines be periodically reviewed and updated to more closely reflect our constituency.

Purpose

The Milligan University Athletics Hall of Fame exists to honor outstanding athletes, coaches and other significant participants in the athletics program of Milligan University. Induction serves to encourage and increase awareness of individuals’ significant achievements in and contributions to athletics and to provide a physical archiving of some of the university’s finest alumni, coaches and friends.

Qualifications
  • The candidate must be an alumnus/a of Milligan University or have had a significant association with the Milligan University athletics program. (e.g. Dr. Orvel Crowder, who was inducted in 1996, was not an alumnus but was a professor and distinguished wrestling coach.)

  • If an alumnus/a, the candidate must have graduated at least five years prior to date of nomination. However, greater consideration will be given to those who have graduated 10 or more years prior to the date of nomination.

  • The candidate must have brought distinction to Milligan University through athletics participation.

  • The candidate must demonstrate high standards of integrity and Christian character.

Leaders in Christian service

Purpose

The purpose of Leaders in Christian Service is to identify non-alumni professionals who are shining examples of Christian leadership in the workplace, community, school, and church.

Qualifications
  • The candidate must not be an alumnus or alumna of Milligan University or Emmanuel Christian Seminary at Milligan.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing the cause of Christ beyond the walls of the church.
  • The candidate must exemplify faithful stewardship of his or her life, influence, and resources.
  • The candidate must demonstrate excellence in Christian character and integrity.
  • The candidate must provide clear evidence of Christian leadership within the church and the broader community.
