Academics:
A Christian Liberal Arts Education
What you learn in college will help direct the course of your future. That's why we take academics seriously at Milligan. Our faculty are among the best in their fields and our academic programs are lauded by accrediting agencies and national organizations.
Milligan offers students a Christian liberal arts education in a community of inquiry, responsibility, and caring. The term "liberal arts" often is used to refer to a body of knowledge, concentrated in the humanities. This subject matter is meant to educate a student broadly about the historical, philosophical, and literary basis of our modern society. At Milligan College, these subjects are part of an interdisciplinary Humanities Program and are always taught from a perspective of God's activity with humanity; thus, biblical studies are also a critical element of the college's core curriculum.
But liberal arts is also a way of describing an education that seeks to prepare students to think, to inquire about the nature and meaning of the world, and to analyze information and ideas. A liberal arts education orients students toward the world in an open and constructive way, to lead and to serve. Learning from a liberal arts perspective prepares one for an ever-changing world. This approach to the liberal arts is our goal at Milligan College.
What are the distinguishing characteristics of a liberal arts college committed to a Christian worldview?
Faculty that encourage students to explore the intersections between faith and your studies.
Academic programs that provide a Christian framework for the study of traditionally secular subjects.
Student-leaders who can think for themselves, analyze information and ideas and explore the nature and meaning of the world.
This interplay between Christian commitment and academic rigor forms the foundation for all Milligan students, no matter which academic program you choose. As a result, you'll learn what it means to be a servant-leader who understands that success is about using your God-given abilities for a worthwhile calling.
