Academic Philosophy

Milligan offers students a Christian liberal arts education in a community of inquiry, responsibility, and caring. The liberal arts are taught from a perspective of God’s activity with humanity. The college’s core curriculum, with an interdisciplinary humanities program and Bible courses, educates students toward the world in an open and constructive way, to lead and to serve.
 

Accreditation

SACS: Milligan College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; 404-679-4501) to award bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

NCATE: The education program at Milligan is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) (2010 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington, DC, 20036; 202-466-7496). This accreditation program covers initial teacher and advanced educator preparation programs.

ACOTE: The occupational therapy program at Milligan College is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE), a division of The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) (4720 Montgomery Lane, P.O. Box 31220, Bethesda, MD 20824-1220; 800-652-AOTA).

CCNE: The nursing program at Milligan College is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)(One Dupont Circle, NW Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036-1120, 202-887-6791). This accreditation covers the baccalaureate degree program.


Athletics

Milligan competes in the NAIA Appalachian Athletic Conference in 18 intercollegiate sports: for men, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming, and tennis; and for women, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, and volleyball. Our nationally recognized athletic teams have won more than 42 conference titles and qualified for 48 national championship tournament berths in the past 10 years.
 

Campus Ministry
As a Christian community, Milligan offers a nurturing environment where students are strengthened and encouraged in their spiritual growth. Opportunities include weekly chapel, a convocation program, vespers, volunteer service and various Christian-based student organizations. Biblical truths are integrated into all classes. Students are active in many local churches.

Milligan actively integrates high-quality academic programs with biblical faith and a service-oriented philosophy to prepare students for life’s journey.
 

Church Affiliation
Throughout its history Milligan College has maintained an active relationship with the Christian churches/churches of Christ. Committed to the restoration of New Testament Christianity and the unity of all believers, these congregations are a dynamic and growing fellowship. Given this commitment to Christian unity, students from various Christian traditions find Milligan a welcoming community.
 

Cost of Attendance
Milligan's cost is below the national average of four-year private institutions. Undergraduate costs for the 2008-09 academic year are: Tuition: $19,950 per year; Fees: $650 per year; Room and Board: $5,650 per year. Faculty
70% of Milligan's faculty have earned the highest degree in their field and many also have career-based experience. They are respected and caring Christian scholars who are committed to scholarship, excellence in teaching, and the faith development of their students.

81% of traditional students live on campus in one of six residence halls or student apartments, creating a true collegiate environment.

A low student-faculty ratio offers personal attention and class sizes that typically range from 10-15 students.


Student Life

Milligan has an active student life and close-knit campus community. More than 45 social, service, honorary and professional organizations encourage servant leadership.


Technology

All residence hall rooms and on-campus apartments have high-speed Internet connections and private phone lines. Students also have access to computers in various labs and technology classrooms on campus.
