Occupational Therapy - New Students

Welcome to Milligan College's Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) Program!

Orientation
A mandatory orientation for the MSOT program will be held in the OT classroom in Hardin Hall on Monday, August 18, 2008. You will meet the OT faculty and your classmates at this time. You will need to purchase your OT Student Manual, which we will review during orientation. Also, please plan to attend our annual kick-off cookout for lunch on Tuesday August 19.

Class begins
Classes begin Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Classes WILL meet on Labor Day.

Timeline for Health Record Submission

Time

Action

Prior to Semester I (Summer)

  • Gather records of immunizations (MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella)
  • Obtain a tetanus booster if necessary. Tetanus boosters last 10 years; yours must be current at time of graduation
  • Obtain titer/documented history of Varicella (Chicken Pox) if no vaccine.
  • Obtain student health insurance if needed.

During Semester I (Fall)

  • Fill out the following forms: assumption of risk & release, statement of student responsibility for learning, photo release form and the right to privacy act
  • Fill out student contact info sheet

Christmas break between Semester I and Semester II (note: proof of completion of these requirements (and all prior) must be in your fieldwork folder by January 15th).

 

  • Have a physical examination by a physician
  • Obtain two-step TB test (two-step requirement waived for those who have had two TB tests within one year)
  • Fill out Personal Data Form and Health Record & Prerequisite form; both must be signed by Fieldwork Coordinator
  • Complete CPR & First Aid training
  • Obtain professional student liability insurance with limits of 2 million/4 million

Semester II (Spring)

  • Complete the following training in Clinical Reasoning class: Infection Control/Bloodborne Pathogens, Confidentiality/HIPAA Training
  • Complete a TBI/FBI background check (will be done as part of Clinical Reasoning class)

Semester III (Fall)

  • Fill out an updated student contact info sheet

Christmas break between Semester III and Semester IV (note: proof of completion of these requirements (and all prior) must be in your fieldwork folder by January 15th).

 

  • Have a routine physical examination done by a physician
  • Have a TB test administered & read
  • Fill out a second personal data form; must be signed by Fieldwork Coordinator
  • Update health record & prerequisite form
  • Complete CPR & First Aid training (if your certification has run out)
