Occupational Therapy
The Master of Science in Occupational Therapy Program at Milligan College is holistic in nature and integrates both theory and practice in the art and science of occupational therapy.
Area hospitals, including Johnson City Medical Center and Wellmont Health System, and area businesses cooperated closely with the College in funding and developing the program and in providing a wide range of clinical experiences.
Occupational therapy is a health profession that provides treatment programs to help injured or aging people become more independent and relearn basic living skills.
Milligan's MSOT program is designed for students who have an earned bachelor's degree and who have completed the prerequisite requirements for admissions to the program. Baccalaureate degrees can be in a variety of academic areas, some of which include human performance and exercise science, human relations, development, sociology, biology and psychology.
The master's degree program is designed to promote integration and utilization of theory and practice in the art and science of occupational therapy. The resultant critical thinking and clinical skills will provide graduates with potential to attain leadership roles in clinical practice, administration, research, and education.

ACCREDITATION
The Occupational Therapy Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). ACOTE's address and telephone number are ACOTE c/o AOTA, P.O. BOX 31220, BETHESDA, MD 20824-1220, (301) 652-2682. Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR). In addition, most states require licensure in order to practice; however, state licenses are usually based on the results of the NBCOT Certification Examination. A felony conviction may affect a graduate's ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure
