Executive MBA Certificate

Stay ahead of the rapid changes reshaping business today by completing an Executive MBA Certificate. Designed for the working professional already holding an MBA or similar graduate-level degree, you can further specialize your knowledge and training to stay current in the marketplace without pursuing an additional degree.

Each certificate consists of nine semester hours of graduate course work (three courses) in one of three tracks and can be completed in as few as four months. Individuals may pursue and obtain multiple certificates.

  • Leadership
    The leadership certificate explores best practices in understanding and maximizing human interaction in global and diverse contexts. The track also examines current issues in leadership and appropriate strategies for implementing change.

  • Healthcare Management
    The healthcare management certificate examines the US healthcare system including staff management, government interventions, and comparisons with other healthcare delivery systems in developed countries. The track also examines the administration of healthcare finance and the management of regulatory compliance within healthcare organizations.

  • Operations Management

    Now available in Kingsport!

    The operations management certificate is designed to further provide students with a broad conceptual framework for the management of operations in today’s competitive, global environment. The track will demonstrate how organizations compete on the elements of quality, cost, time, innovation, and flexibility using human, material and informational resources.

The program is designed to accommodate working professionals, which means you don't have to sacrifice your job and salary while earning your MBA. Classes meet one Saturday per month on the Milligan College campus in East Tennessee, complemented by several weeks of on-going discussion, class participation, and other assignments, all facilitated by faculty using Internet-based resources. This provides flexibility in scheduling, while at the same time providing thorough and in-depth study.

Each certificate consists of three courses and can be completed in as few as four months, taking each class consecutively. Or spread it out as your schedule allows over several years to balance your personal and professional commitments. Students will need to bring a laptop to class.

While their primary focus is teaching and mentoring, many are also involved in academic research, publishing articles and books, and serving in professional organizations. This keeps them up-to-date and ready to share the latest and most timely information with our students.

Admission Requirements for Certificate

Minimum requirements for admission to the MBA certificate program are as follows:

  • Completed application and writing sample (Graduates of Milligan's MBA program may request a special application.)
  • Graduate degree
  • Milligan's MBA is intended for working professionals who have “meaningful work experience.” The ideal candidate has a firm grasp of business (or non-profit) operations, experience in exercising management discretion and authority, and responsibility for business planning or budgetary responsibilities.
  • Two professional recommendations
  • Interview with faculty admissions committee may be required
  • The TOEFL score must be at least 550 on the paper-based examination or 213 on the computer-based examination or 79 on the internet-based examination. The IELTS score must be at least 5.5.
    (international students only)
  • For the Healthcare Management certificate only, applicants must have completed a graduate level course in finance. If not, then the applicant can enroll in the MBA Managerial Finance course offered prior to the certificate track courses.

Financial Information

Affordable. Tuition for the executive certificate program is $575 per credit hour. The total cost for the three-course certificate is approximately $5,175. This is comparable with MBA Certificate programs at most other private and public institutions. Each student is issued the software required for the program. Lunch is provided on Saturday during residency weekends. Housing information for out-of-town students is available upon request.
