Milligan alum to preach at local churches


MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (October 24, 2006) — Joe Wise, director of development and church resources at Milligan College, will preach at Grandview Christian Church in Johnson City this Sunday in both the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services.

Wise will speak on Philippians 4:14-20. The title of his message is “The Heart of Joy.”

In 2003, Wise  was recognized by the Business Journal of Tri-Cities, Tennessee/Virginia, as a member of their 2003 “40 Under Forty” class. He is presently the second vice president of the Johnson City Kiwanis Club  and  previously served as vice president for the Johnson City Jaycees, who presented him with the Keyman Award in 1994. He served as chairman of the Enterprise Employee Campaign of the United Way Fund Drive from 1995-98, is a member of the Tri-Cities Public Relations Society of America, and has served as a deacon at Grandview Christian Church in Johnson City .

As director of development and church resources for Milligan College , Wise in responsible for relationships that generate in excess of $500,000 annually. Since coming to Milligan in 1998 he has been instrumental in the development of both the regional and national Leaders in Christian Service recognition program and has been involved in the development of multiple other initiatives.

Wise has done graduate study at Emmanuel School of Religion and is nearing completion of a master of arts in communications from East Tennessee State University .

Milligan alumnus Bob Hayden of Fullerton , Calif. , will preach in the Sunday morning services at Downtown Christian Church in Johnson City .

Hayden is a 1980 graduate of Milligan College and was ordained to the ministry by Jones Creek Christian Church in Baltimore , Md. He was president of the Milligan College Alumni Association from 1999–2004 and is a regular guest lecturer at Milligan College and Northeast State , covering such subjects as interpersonal communications, public relations and advertising writing, desktop publishing, photojournalism, mass media and marketing.

He has served on the Institutional Advancement Committee for
Milligan College for more than seven years, as well as on the National Committee for the Milligan College Campaign for Christian Leadership. He served on the six-member advisory board for the inaugural season of the Fullerton Flyers Professional Baseball Team. In 2005 Hayden worked with the City of Fullerton and the personal manager for Grammy-winner Bonnie Raitt to have July 4, 2005, declared John Raitt Day in Fullerton .

As a member of North Orange Christian Church from 1982 through 1997, Hayden served in various capacities that included chairperson of the board of directors, chairperson of the building committee, chairperson of business administration, trustee and chairperson of the trustees.

Since his ordination he has counseled and officiated at weddings for over 300 couples. Hayden is a member of the Associates in Christian Education for Emmanuel School of Religion and on the Advisory Board of Higher Ministries. He is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts and the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Hayden is a principal with Hayden Design, an advertising and design firm located in Fullerton , Calif.
