Milligan prepares for students’ arrival

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (August 5, 2016) — Milligan College has been bustling this summer with numerous construction and renovation projects, preparing for students’ arrival next weekend.

The projects include:

• Significant progress on a year-long campus energy savings project led by Energy Systems Group (ESG), in order to reduce energy consumption by more than 20 percent annually.
• Renovation of the P.H. Welshimer Library for the energy project.
• Transition of the McGlothlin-Street Occupational Therapy Center from Hardin Hall to the Thompson Center on Emmanuel Hill.
• Construction of Sesquicentennial Plaza, next to the library, in honor of Milligan’s 150th anniversary.
• Installation of new security cameras for residence hall parking lots.

In addition, Milligan faculty and office staff left their desks this morning for the college’s annual “Campus Work Day,” a time where they assist physical plant staff with some final campus beautification efforts.

After a continental breakfast at 8 a.m., employees divided into groups and completed a checklist of indoor and outdoor projects, including landscaping and cleaning.

A group even helped put the finishing touches on Sesquicentennial Plaza, laying the final bricks—each with a special engraving from a Milligan supporter—on a walkway through the plaza. The space features outdoor furniture and a pergola, providing a new place where students can relax and study.

The work day culminated with an employee lunch at noon.

“This annual tradition allows us to come together as a community and prepare campus for students as they return to campus,” said Milligan President Dr. Bill Greer. “It also is our chance to say thank you to Milligan’s housekeeping, landscaping and physical plant staff who work to make this campus as beautiful as possible every day.”

Milligan students return on Aug. 14, with classes beginning Aug. 17.
