MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (July 8, 2015) – Milligan College will host an information open house for its graduate and professional studies (GPS) programs on Monday, July 20, from 5-7 p.m. in Derthick Hall.

Representatives will be available to discuss all of the GPS programs at the college, including degree completion programs for adults in business administration, early childhood education and nursing (R.N. to B.S.N.), as well as graduate degree programs in business administration (MBA), education (M.Ed.), occupational therapy (M.S.O.T.), counseling (M.S.C.) and Milligan’s online major in computer information systems (C.I.S.)

The session also will provide information on programs available at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education (KCHE) and the college’s recently acquired Emmanuel Christian Seminary including degrees in religion (M.A.R. and M.Div.) and ministry (M.A. in Christian Ministry and D.Min.).

“Milligan has a history of providing high-quality graduate and professional studies programs to help students achieve their educational goals and advance their careers in new and exciting ways,” said Dr. Lee Fierbaugh, vice president for enrollment management and marketing. “We are pleased to add Emmanuel’s various master’s and doctorate level degrees as part of Milligan’s degree options.”

Financial aid representatives and faculty advisors will be available to talk with prospective students and help them further their education.
The following programs are highlighted during the session:

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in business administration is a degree completion program that enables working adults to complete a business administration major in 16 months by attending class one night a week. In addition to the Milligan location, a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis on operations management is offered periodically at KCHE.

The Bachelor of Science in early childhood education allows adults who have completed about two years of college to complete the child and youth development major in about 18 months. Teaching licensure in early childhood education (PreK-3) may be obtained by completing additional coursework and a 15-week supervised teaching experience in a public school setting. This program also will be offered at KCHE.

The degree completion program in nursing (R.N to B.S.N.) is designed for the practicing R.N. who desires to complete a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree. The program requires students to be in class only one day per week and will provide students with individual advising sessions to guide them through the curriculum. Classes will be a combination of online, face-to-face and hybrid (a mix of online and face-to-face). Completing the major takes approximately 19 months.

The computer information systems-mobile (C.I.S.) major is designed for students who are unable to complete their degree or add a second major in a traditional college setting. Courses in this major are delivered to the student via Milligan’s online course management system and can be easily accessed from anywhere. Students can take just one course at a time or complete the major in as few as four semesters.

The Master of Science in Counseling (M.S.C.) program offers concentrations in school counseling and clinical mental health counseling. In addition, Emmanuel will offer a certificate of graduate study in counseling ministry. This certificate program introduces students to basic knowledge about both secular and Christian perspectives on counseling and how these may be applied in a church-based setting.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is a 14-month program that meets one Saturday per month, complemented by ongoing online instruction. The program is designed to accommodate professionals working at every level of management and focuses on business leadership from a Christian perspective. Milligan’s MBA offers three specialized tracks in leadership, healthcare management and operations management. In addition, the college now offers an opportunity for individuals who already possess an MBA or equivalent degree to earn an executive certificate in one of the three specialized tracks.

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) program includes both initial licensure and advanced degree options. The initial licensure degree is typically a 15-month professional educational program that allows students to earn their teaching certificate or license and their degree. The advanced program is for current teachers seeking professional development and their master’s degree. The advanced M.Ed. program is a hybrid of online and on-campus options, allowing students the convenience of online courses and the opportunity to interact face to face with the knowledgeable, caring education faculty.

The Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (M.S.O.T.) program is the only master’s level occupational therapy program in Northeast Tennessee. It prepares therapists to help people with injuries or illnesses to relearn basic living skills. The program is designed for people with undergraduate degrees in a variety of academic fields.

The Master of Arts in Religion (M.A.R.) is designed for students who wish to pursue further study in a professional field outside of traditional ministries and desire a theological background before entering a graduate or professional program. Students may choose to focus their studies in Christian theology, church history, historical theology, New Testament or Old Testament.

The Master of Christian Ministries (M.C.Min.) is an online program designed for students who cannot relocate to Johnson City for the residential Master of Divinity program. Students do not need to be in full or part-time ministry positions during the program, but they will need to have a ministry location to which they are connected in order to apply their learning and conduct their mentored ministry experience.

The Master of Divinity (M.Div.) is considered the standard program of ministerial education and is formally required for ordination by many churches. This program provides a breadth of education in all the areas of theological learning, with a special focus on the practice of pastoral ministry.

The Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) is a three-year program designed to help students integrate reading and thinking in biblical, historical and doctrinal paths with their practice of ministry. Emmanuel’s commitment to the church’s global mission is reflected in the curriculum, as well as the diversity and compassion of the instructional staff and student body. This program is open to graduates of colleges and universities who have earned an accredited M.Div. or its equivalent and who have three years of ministry experience. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.
